THE H5 HOUSE DIRECTLY ADDRESSES AND ANTICIPATES THE PLANETS SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ISSUES REGARDING THE SUPPLY AND DEMAND OF WATER IN THE 21STCENTURY.  THE HOUSE IS DESIGNED TO BE 100% SELF-SUSTAINING WITH A ZERO CARBON FOOTPRINT WHILE ELIMINATING THE DEMAND ON THE REGIONAL WATER SUPPLY THROUGH THE HOUSE’S INDIVIDUAL ABILITY TO COLLECT AND STORE ITS OWN WATER. THE HOUSE ITSELF ACTS AS A VESSEL FOR THE COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF POTABLE AND NON-POTABLE WATER. ON THE COMMUNITY LEVEL, THE HOUSE WOULD ACT AS A NODE OR COLLECTION POINT WITHIN A LARGER NETWORK, WHICH WOULD THEN FILTER WATER TO A COMMUNITY RESERVE. INDIVIDUAL HOUSES IN THE EVENT OF A NATURAL DISASTER SUCH AS A HURRICANE, DROUGHT OR FLOOD COULD ACCESS THIS RESERVE THROUGH THE NETWORK.

 THIS SYSTEMIC AND SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO HOUSING DESIGN AND URBAN PLANNING ALLOWS FOR PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY IN MANAGING THEIR WATER AND ENERGY RESOURCES WHILE CREATING A NEW SENSE OF ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIAL CONNECTIVITY AND AWARENESS. IN ADDITION TO THE H5’S PHYSICAL DESIGN FEATURES TO ACCOMMODATE THE FUNCTION OF THE WATER HARVESTING SYSTEM FOR SUSTAINING EVERYDAY WATER SUPPLY AND DEMAND, THE PHYSICAL DESIGN ALSO DOUBLES AS A SAFETY HARBORAGE IN THE INSTANCE OF NATURAL DISASTERS, THROUGH ITS CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES. WITH TODAY’S CHANGING CLIMATE, RISING SEA LEVELS, FLASH FLOODING, DROUGHT AND THE INCREASING FREQUENCY AND INTENSITY OF STORMS WE REQUIRE THE FORESIGHT OF ARCHITECTURE TO ADAPT AND EVOLVE TO THESE CHANGING ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND POLITICAL CONDITIONS.
